June 25, 1890 - December 28, 1977 - American actress and dancer.
She began her acting career with participation in vaudeville, and in 1912 she made her debut on Broadway. It was the theatrical roles that brought the actress popularity and recognition. Greenwood also had a long film career, beginning in 1915 with the title role in the silent comedy Jane. On the big screen, the actress appeared in almost three dozen films, including "Trouble at the Hotel" (1931), "Even in Argentinean" (1940), "The Moon over Miami" (1941), "The Whole Gang Assembly" (1943) , "Oklahoma!" (1955) and Opposite Sex (1956). Being a supporter of Christian science, Greenwood rejected the role of Mother Superior in the musical "The Sound of Music", believing that she could not fully experience this role with full responsibility. The actress was married twice. Her first husband was actor Cyril Ring, brother of actress Blanche Ring, and her second was composer Martin Bruns. Both marriages were childless and ended in divorce. Charlotte Greenwood passed away in Los Angeles in 1977 at the age of 87. She was cremated and her ashes scattered into the sea.
