Her father was familiar with the pioneers of nascent cinema, and introduced her to D.W. Griffith, who took Mayer for a small role in Intolerance (1916). For the next two years she lived in New York, where she worked mainly in the theater, after which she returned to the big screen, having signed a contract with the film studio "Universal" .
Over the years, her career gained momentum, and by the middle of the decade, Myers had already played major roles in many famous silent films, including "Poisoned Paradise" (1924), "Handsome Brummel" (1924), "Ben-Hur" (1925), " Tell that to the sailors "(1926) and" The Lady of the Camellias "(1926). With the advent of the talkie era, the actress shifted to supporting roles, appearing in films such as Svengali (1931), Mad Genius (1931) and Halt Station (1946) .
By that time her acting work had become rare, and after 1950 she appeared in only a few episodes of TV series. In the following years, she worked in the real estate industry, as well as in her own perfume company. Her last acting job was a small role as a journalist in the 1976 comedy "Won Tone - The Dog That Saved Hollywood" .
The actress was married three times, and from her second husband Ralph H. Bloom, she gave birth to three children. Carmel Mayer died in 1980 of a heart attack at the age of 81 in Los Angeles and was buried next to her parents in a Jewish cemetery in the east of the city. The actress's contribution to the American film industry has been marked with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
