Born November 11, 1969 - Northern Irish actor, playwright and screenwriter.
He was admitted to the Royal College of Art but decided to study at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London. After living and working in London, he returned to Northern Ireland. He lives in Belfast and is married to director Rachel O'Riordan.
Dormer earned attention following his performance as Northern Irish snooker star Alex Higgins on The Hurricane in 2003, where he played and wrote the script. The production received praise from critics and from Higgins himself, and Dormer received a Scene Award for Best Actor in 2003. In 2004, Dormer won The Irish Times Best Actor for his performance in Observe the Sons of Ulster Marching Towards the Somme by Frank McGuinness, and in 2005 ended the season with Sir Peter Hall at the Theater Royal and played in Bath at plays by George Bernard Shaw, You Can Never Tell, Much Ado About Nothing by William Shakespeare, in Personal Lives by Noel Coward and in Waiting for Godot by Samuel Beckett.
He was cast in the lead role in the 2012 film Good Vibrations, which follows the personality of Northern Ireland and punk rock visionary Terry Hooley. The film premiered at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival and was awarded Best Galway Film, Best Screenplay and Best Debut by a BAFTA. The film was well received by critics, receiving positive reviews, most of which highlighted Dormer's performance. Terry Hooley's portrayal of Dormer earned him a nomination for the 2013 Irish Film and Television Awards for Best Actor. He has since played critically successful roles in Yann Demange's 71, alongside Jack O'Connell and Gerard Johnson's Hyena (2014) .
Dormer rose to prominence as a television actor, most recently playing key roles in the Cinemax drama series Hunted and BBC's Hidden. In 2012, Dormer took on the role of Lord Beric Dondarrion, aka "The Lightning Lord," the leader of the Brotherhood Without Banners in the third season of HBO's Game of Thrones .
In 2014, he began acting in the TV series Fortitude. Described as "their most ambitious project to date," he plays Sheriff Dan Anderssen and stars alongside Stanley Tucci, Michael Gambon, Christopher Eccleston and Sophie Grobel from Murder. Fortitude was launched on January 29, 2015.
