Born September 29, 1923 - May 31, 2010 - American cinematographer.
During World War II, William Fraker served with the Coast Guard. After the service, he entered the University of Southern California, where he studied cinema. During his studies, he became friends with fellow student Konrad Hall. In 1951 he graduated with a bachelor's degree. In 1956 he began working as an assistant cameraman, and in 1961 made his debut as a main cameraman. He worked as an adjunct cinematographer on One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, for which he was nominated for a BAFTA alongside principal cinematographer Haskell Wexler and second cinematographer Bill Butler. In the same capacity he worked on the film "Close Encounters of the Third Kind". He was a member of the American Society of Cinematographers since 1968 and was their president from 1979 to 1980, 1984, and 1991 to 1993.
