March 20, 1928 - February 27, 2003 - American educator, Presbyterian preacher, songwriter, author, and broadcaster. Fred spent most of his early childhood in the company of his maternal grandfather, who loved his grandson and taught him music and singing. Already at the age of five, the boy played the piano well. After graduating from high school, Fred entered Dartmouth College in Hanover and studied there from 1946 to 1948. Then, in 1951, he graduated from Rollins College in Florida with a BA in Music. In college, Rogers met his future wife, Sarah Joan Byrd, with whom he married on June 9, 1952. After they had two children - James (1959) and John (1961) .
From an early age, Rogers was interested in television. And, despite the fact that after college he entered the seminary, his dream remained to work on television. Music helped Fred make his dream come true. In 1951, Rogers began working for NBC (in various musical projects, including for children) .
In 1954, he switched to WQED - the Pittsburgh state television channel - and worked there for the next seven years. Rogers' programs were very successful and even rewarded. Rogers graduated with honors from the Pittsburgh Theological Seminary in 1963. In the same year, Rogers traveled to Toronto, where he signed a contract with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and began broadcasting for children. After returning to Pittsburgh, Rogers took an active part in the affairs of the Presbyterian Church and at the same time continued to work on television.
