March 8, 1910 - April 8, 2000 - American actress, nicknamed "The Queen of Film Noir" in her homeland, because of the many roles of "bad girls" in black and white thrillers. Born in Brooklyn on March 8, 1910, the son of a tailor and his wife. Her ancestors were immigrants from Ireland and France. In the late 1920s, after graduating from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, she began her theater career. Her first success came in 1932 on Broadway, and a year later she made her film debut. Over the next five years, Claire Trevor starred in thirty films, and mostly in the lead roles. In 1937, she co-starred with Humphrey Bogart in Dead End, which earned her an Oscar nomination. Since the late 1930s, the actress has often starred alongside John Wayne in Westerns, including Stagecoach (1939), which became classics of the genre, Allegheny Rebellion (1939) and Black Team (1940). Other famous roles of her time include Mrs. Grale in It's Murder, My Darling (1944), starring Dick Powell, and Helen in Born to Kill (1947) .
In 1949, Claire Trevor won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in Key Largo. All these numerous roles of "bad girls" in thrillers and westerns have cemented her nickname "Queen of film noir". The actress was once again nominated for an Oscar in 1954 for her role in The Great and Mighty .
In 1957, Claire Trevor won an Emmy for her leading role in the television series Dadsworth. In the future, she continued to periodically act in films, at the same time appeared on television and in the theater. At this time, she no longer played "bandits", limiting herself to the roles of middle-aged women and mothers suitable for her. The last time in the movie Trevor appeared in 1982 in the film "Kiss Me Goodbye". In 1998, she appeared as a guest at the 70th Academy Awards .
Claire Trevor received a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in Los Angeles for her contributions to the film industry. The School of Art at the branch of the University of California, Irvine, to which the actress devoted much of her time, was named after her death in her honor. In 1938, Claire Trevor married producer Clark Andrews, but they divorced four years later. In 1943, Silos William became her husband, from whom she gave birth to a son, Charles. The second marriage also failed and in 1947 the couple separated. A year later, she remarried producer Milton Breen and moved to live in California in Newport Beach. In 1978, her son Charles died in a plane crash, and the following year, her husband passed away, who died of a brain tumor. Claire Trevor died in Newport Beach, California on April 8, 2000 from respiratory failure at the age of 90. She was cremated and her ashes scattered in the ocean.
