Tamara has a sister - actress Claire Beckwith. Beckwith grew up in the southwest London suburb of Kue, where she attended Queens High School before moving to Wimbledon in the early 1980s. She attended The Cheltenham Ladies' College before joining MPW, which she eventually left due to her pregnancy.
