Born 19 August 1945, Hounslow, Middlesex, UK - British rock musician, vocalist and lyricist. Best known as a member of the Deep Purple group. Gillan also sang the role of Jesus in the original version of the rock opera "Jesus Christ Superstar" by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice and sang for a year at Black Sabbath. He is considered one of the masters of breast vocals in rock music with a voice range from E2 to C6.
At various times he participated in rock bands Moonshiners, The Javelins, Wainwright's Gentlemen, Episode Six, Ian Gillan Band, GILLAN, Sweet. Recorded the album Born Again with Black Sabbath. Also a member of the supergroup Whocares.
