Joseph Kalleia - biography, date of birth, place of birth, filmography, clips, Actor, Writer.
August 4, 1897 - October 31, 1975 - Maltese singer and actor who worked in Hollywood. Born in the small Maltese city of Rabat in the family of Pascal and Helena Kalley. In 1914 he left Malta and began touring Europe as a singer in various cafes and music halls. In the mid-1920s, Joseph moved to the United States, where he made his Broadway debut in 1926. During his theatrical career, which lasted about 20 years, Kallea appeared in such productions as Broadway, The Last Mile, Grand Hotel, Honeymoon, Ten Minutes of Alibi, A Little Miracle and others.
In 1931, Kallea signed a contract with MGM, where he starred in 57 films. In films, he very often played the role of police officers or villains in various Hollywood Westerns and gangster films. Kalley starred in such films as "For a Subtle Man" (1936), "Marie Antoinette" (1938), "Algeria" (1938), for his role in which he was awarded the "Film Critics' Prize", "Juarez" (1939) , The Jungle Book (1942), For Whom the Bell Tolls (1943), The Conspirators (1944), Gilda (1946), Deadline at Dawn (1946), The Seal of Evil (1958) ), "Fort Alamo" (1960) and some others. In 1963, Kallea retired from his acting career and returned to Malta. On October 31, 1975, Joseph Kalley died of a heart attack in his home town of Sliema.
