Born near Ystad, Sweden, her father is of Icelandic descent. Edda grew up in a large family with seven children. She started composing her own pieces for piano early. When she was 16, she started writing pop music with lyrics in English. In 2004 she studied music in Gotland and began her music career in Malmo. She developed her own musical style, which is a fusion of jazz, pop music, folk and classics. Released two solo albums in 2010 and 2011.
In 2013, Edda Magnason made her acting debut in the biographical musical drama Waltz for Monica, playing legendary Swedish jazz singer Monika Zetterlund at the start of her career as she moved from small Swedish Gordon clubs to stages in Stockholm and New York, where she worked with musicians such as Ella Fitzgerald and Miles Davis.
