November 20, 1925 - June 6, 1968 - American politician and statesman. The third of Joseph P. Kennedy's four sons (there were nine children in the family), Robert Kennedy was younger than Joseph Jr. who died in 1944 and President John F. Kennedy was assassinated. Graduated from Harvard University and the University of Virginia School of Law. After the death of the eldest of the brothers, Joe Jr., in 1944, John F. Kennedy became the family's main hope, and Bobby supported his brother in his political activities. In 1952, Bobby led the campaign to elect his brother to the Senate; in 1960, he helped JFK win the Democratic nomination for the presidency of the United States, and then take the presidency. John F. Kennedy would subsequently appoint his brother as Attorney General, the first time in American history that a president and his adviser are so closely related. In 1951 he worked in the Department of Justice, in charge of oversight of criminal justice, then on a subcommittee at McCarthy. The largest case prosecuted by Robert F. Kennedy through the subcommittee was the exposure of the US Secretary of the Air Force, H. Talbott. Since 1961, he was a member of his brother's administration, holding the post of Attorney General (Minister of Justice). In the history of President Kennedy's administration, Bobby was involved in solving the problem of the Cuban missile crisis and civil rights issues. As one of the most trusted people he was a member of the Caribbean Crisis team .
After the death of John F. Kennedy, he served for 9 months as US Attorney General under President Johnson. He retired in September 1964 and was elected to the Senate from New York in November of that year. The death of his brother greatly changed Robert Kennedy and influenced his point of view and political position. His speeches began to sound statements about building a society based on compassion and moral principles. His speeches covered a very wide range of topics: civil rights, freedom, democracy, poverty, human rights, education, health, war and peace. In 1968 he ran for President of the United States from the Democratic Party. In 1968, Kennedy was faced with a dilemma: despite the fact that he did not intend to run for president after the death of his brother, he was forced to do so. Kennedy entered the race on a platform that was very different from that of all other candidates. He not only wanted to stop the Vietnam War, but also radically change the country's structure. Robert Kennedy wanted to awaken in people a passionate desire to remake not only their own country, but also to rebuild the whole world, to make it better. His own style was also completely unusual: it was a mixture of creative and extremely radical ideas with conservative concepts of self-sacrifice, morality and hard work. While his Democratic rival, Eugene McCarthy, appealed primarily to young intellectuals, Kennedy's audience was of a different kind: young and old. rich and blue collar, all races. Journalists compared his impact on listeners to that which rock stars have on their viewers.
One of the most significant areas of his political activity was the struggle for equal rights for African Americans in the United States. So, in the late 1960s, he visited the dysfunctional Negro neighborhood of Bedford - Stuyvesant in Brooklyn. Impressed by social problems, he formed the Bedford-Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation.
