Born January 5, 1963, Tangshan, Hebei, PRC - Chinese actor, film director, screenwriter and producer.

From 1980 to 1984 he studied at the Central Theater Institute of China.

Since 1984 he began his acting career, both in theater (Chinese Youth Theater) and in cinema.

The first film king - heir to the throne of Pu Yi in the film "The Last Empress" (1986).

Thanks to Jiang Wen's successful debut in 1986, renowned director Xie Jin is invited to play the lead male role in the new film Fuzhong Village. Immediately after this, in 1987, Zhang Yimou invited him to the lead role in the film "Red Gaoliang". With the success of Zhang Yimou's film both in China and abroad, Jiang Wen has become one of the leading Chinese actors.

Jiang Wen later starred in another Zhang Yimou film, Keep Calm (1997).

He made his debut as a writer and director in 1995 with the film Sunny Days. For his directing work on this film, he won an award at the Taiwan Golden Horse Film Festival (1996). Also, the film topped the rating of the best ten films in the world for 1995 according to the magazine "Time".
