She was nominated for an Academy Award in 2004 for Best Supporting Actress (first-ever film actress from the Middle East) for her role in House of Sand and Fog and received an Emmy in 2009 for role in the HBO drama "Saddam's House". She mainly specializes in character supporting roles in film and television.
