In 1983, Peter landed a role in the comedy series Baby Makes Five, this time playing the accountant and young spouse; however, this project did not have particularly high ratings either. In 1984, Scolari was recruited to the TV series Newhart, and he stayed there until the end of the show in 1990 and was one of the most popular contributors to the project.
He got on the big screen much less often. In 1984 he played the resort owner in Rosebud Beach Hotel; in 1990, along with Mary Crosby, he starred in the film Corporate Affairs.
