Born February 10, 1967, Richmond, Virginia, USA - American screenwriter, producer, actor and director.

In his youth, Gilligan became friends with Angus Wall, and his interest in cinema began when Wall's mother, Jackie, who also taught at the same school as Gilligan's mother, loaned him a camera. With this camera, Gilligan shot sci-fi films with Patrick. At the age of twelve, Vince finished his first film, Space Crash. A year later, he won first place in his age group in a film competition at the University of Virginia.

Gilligan recalls Jackie Wall as one of the most inspiring people in his life and says that he would not be where he is now if it were not for her help. Jackie took her son and Vince to the cinema, and that was one of the reasons why they both embarked on a career in filmmaking. Gilligan's interest in cinema was also fueled by his father: he showed him classic films of the noir genre and westerns with John Wayne and Clint Eastwood.

Gilligan has earned the right to study at the prestigious Center for the Arts in Interloshen, Michigan. At first, he was not sure that he should leave his family and completely change his environment, but his mother convinced him. After studying at the Center for the Arts, Vince returned to Chesterfield to attend high school. In 1985, Gilligan entered New York University. During his studies, he wrote the screenplay for These Pies (1998, the film was directed with Drew Barrymore in the title role); for this script in 1998, Gilligan received the Virginia Governor's Screenwriting Award. One of the judges for this competition was film producer Mark Johnson, who was very impressed with Gilligan's work and called him "the most inventive writer I have ever read." It was Johnson who later introduced Gilligan to The X-Files creator Chris Carter.

Gilligan's first real breakthrough in the television industry came when he became part of the crew of the television series The X-Files. Vince was a big fan of the show, personally meeting its creator Chris Carter, and later wrote the script, which became an episode of the second season called "Scattered Light." After that, Carter invited Gilligan to the main writing team. Gilligan's work on The X-Files lasted seven years, during which he wrote twenty-six episodes, executive produced forty-four episodes, and produced twenty episodes. After that, Vince also worked on a spin-off - the series "Lonely Archers".

Vince Gilligan is best known as the creator, writer, director and producer of the AMC drama series Breaking Bad. For his work on this series, Gilligan was nominated for the prestigious Emmy Awards six times from 2008 to 2012. The series itself was nominated for this award four times and won in 2013. Gilligan received one statuette as a producer. That same year, the US Writers Guild ranked Breaking Bad as the thirteenth best TV series ever. In addition, Gilligan was twice awarded a Screenwriters Guild of the United States for his work on the script. Also in 2013, the series was listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the highest rated series. The series finale took place on September 29, 2013 and attracted an audience of 10.3 million viewers.

In September 2013, it was announced that Sony Pictures Television and AMC had entered into an agreement under which Sony Pictures would produce the Breaking Bad spin-off Better Call Saul. The plot of the series will focus on the character of Sole Goodman and his life before the events of the series "Breaking Bad". Gilligan will oversee the project, and Bob Odenkirk will return as Goodman.

Later that month, the TV series Battle Creek was announced, which aired on March 1, 2015 on CBS. The script for the series was written by Gilligan ten years ago and tells the story of two police officers competing with an FBI agent.
