Born June 24, 1979, Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA - American actress, comedian, screenwriter, producer. Graduated from Buckingham Browne & Nichols Private School in 1997. The following year, she began attending Dartmouth College, where she was a member of the improvisational comedy Day of the Play Dogs. She graduated from college in 2001. In 2003, together with Ben Affleck, she participated in the play Matt and Ben, which she co-wrote with Brenda Withers. Time magazine included this play in the list of "The most important theater events of the year" .
In 2005, Calling appeared in an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm as an assistant. In April 2006 she took part in the talk show "Saturday Night Live". Kaling got her first film role in 2004, in the film "The Forty-Year-Old Virgin". She also appeared in Unaccompanied Children as a waitress. In 2007, she received a small role in the film "Marriage License", opposite John Krasinski, Angela Kinsey and Brian Baumgartner. In 2009 she starred in an episode of the movie "Night at the Museum 2". In 2010 she voiced the mother of a tourist in the cartoon "Despicable Me" .
In 2011, Kaling's first book was published, entitled "My Content" .
Kaling is portrayed by Kelly Kapoor in The Office. She also wrote the screenplay for 18 episodes of the series, including Niagara, for which she won an Emmy. In an interview with The AV Club, Kaling said that Kelly's character is "grossly exaggerated." After an episode of Diwali (season 3), she appeared on the talk show Fresh Air.
