Born in Lisbon, Portugal is an independent Portuguese producer and executive director.
Studied at the Catholic University of Portugal, where she studied philosophy. Joana later began her career as press attache for the Portuguese Prime Minister.
Together with her husband Jason Kliote Joana founded the first American digital production company called Blow Up Pictures. In 2003, Joana co-founded HDNet Films, a film production company. In addition, the producer is President of Open City Films, an independent feature and documentary production company.
Joanne was named Variety's Most Powerful Women in 2013 and was also a jury member at the Sundance Film Festival this year. In 2014, Vicente was named one of the 100 Most Influential People by Brooklyn magazine.
In 2018 Joana was named Executive Director of the Toronto International Film Festival.
