Graduated from Long Beach High School and continued his studies at the University of California, Fullerton. Cherry is openly homosexual.
Cherry began his career in Hollywood as a personal assistant to actress Dixie Carter. In 1990, Mark Cherry wrote the popular TV series Golden Girls, and then its spin-off, The Golden Palace.
