Born June 22, 1964, Exeter, New Hampshire, USA - American writer, journalist, musician, screenwriter, actor and producer.
Brown graduated from Phillips Academy in Exeter, where his father taught mathematics and wrote textbooks and manuals, before retiring in 1982. Brown's mother and father were musicians, and his mother also served as organist in the church. The family belonged to the United States Episcopal Church. After graduating from academy, Brown entered Amherst College, where he was an active member of the Psi Upsilon student fraternity. Brown graduated in 1986 and spent his final year in Spain at the University of Seville, studying art history.
After graduating from college, Dan Brown made a commitment to a musical career as a songwriter, musician and performer. Brown has released several compact discs (CDs) of his recordings. In 1991 he moved to Hollywood, where he earned a living teaching at Beverly Hills Preparatory School.
In 1993, Dan Brown returned with his family to New Hampshire and began teaching English at Phillips Academy in Exeter, and Spanish at Lincoln Akerman School.
Blyth (Blythe) Brown, Dan's wife, an artist and art critic, assisted Brown in his scientific research. She accompanied him on trips and research travels. In 1995, the couple worked together to create the bestselling book 187 Men To Stay Away From: A Guide for Romantically Frustrated Women.
In 1998, Brown, with a long interest in philosophy, the history of religions, cryptography and secret societies, published his first thriller novel, Digital Fortress, which became a bestseller. The novel explores the fine line between civil liberty and national security, and tells the story of the work of a secret unit - the national security agency.
Subsequent works by Brown were created at the "junction of genres" of thriller, intellectual detective, mystery novel.
