Graduated from Indiana University in Bloomington, where he worked for the student newspaper and sang in the choir.
Murphy began his career as a journalist for The Miami Herald, Los Angeles Times, New York Daily News and Entertainment Weekly.
In the late 1990s, Ryan Murphy took up writing scripts for television and producing his shows. His first notable project was the TV series The Best, which aired on WB from 1999 to 2001.
