Graduated from St. Patrick's School in Eccles. Collier holds degrees from the University of Huddersfield and the Manchester Institute of Science and Technology.
In 2006, Collier received a cameo role in the television drama New Street of Law and the television series Shameless. In the same year, he joined the cast of the Coronation Street television series. In October 2008, Collier left the show. In 2010-15, the actor played the role of Thomas Barrow in the television series Downton Abbey.
