He got this role quite by accident, when the producers of the film saw his photo in one of the newspapers in an article about people with big legs. This is how Peter Mayhew got the role of the Minotaur.
When casting for his first Star Wars movie, director George Lucas needed an actor who could fit the role of Chewbacca's ape. Initially, bodybuilder David Prowse claimed the role, but was later approved for the role of Darth Vader. As Lucas said, all Mayhew had to do to get the role of Chewbacca was just to stand up.
Peter Mayhew became a US citizen on October 17, 2005. He currently resides in Granbury, Texas and owns his own business.
