Born September 3, 1940, Devon, England - British actress.
She received her education in London, where she studied at the Central School of Speech and Drama. Before becoming an actress, she worked as a teacher until 1962. In the same year she made her theatrical debut in the English city of Windsor in the production of Gazelle in Park Lane, and three years later she made her debut in London in the West End in the musical Passion Flower Hotel. Collins first appeared in cinema in 1966 in the British film "The Mill Girl's Secret" .
Collins still achieved the greatest fame not in the cinema, but in the theater and on television. In the 1960s, she appeared in Doctor Who, where she played Samantha Briggs, but refused further filming in it, "Saint", "Unthinkable Stories" and "Up and Down the Stairs," in which the role of the handmaid Sarah brought her great success as well. In the last of these series, Pauline co-starred with her husband actor John Alderton, with whom in 1970 they had a joint television project "Thomas and Sarah", which was a spin-off of the series "Up and Down the Stairs" .
In 1988 Collins appeared in London in a one-man production called Shirley Valentine. A year later, she again played this role in the Broadway sequel and in the film adaptation of the same name, where she appeared naked in front of the audience. The role in this film brought the actress nominations for "Oscar" and "Golden Globe", as well as the award "BAFTA". From 1989 to 1992, she starred with her husband in the drama television series "Evergreen" .
Her other notable film roles include Joan Bethel in Pleasure City (1992) and Daisy Drummond in A Road to Heaven (1997) .
In recent years, Collins has been mainly acting in the theater and working on television, where she starred again in the series Doctor Who and Bleak House, as well as in the television films Man and Boy (2002) and Blazing Cyanide (2003) .
In 2001 Pauline Collins was awarded the Order of the British Empire.
