Born on January 1, 1950
After graduating from the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Delhi, she began writing screenplays for children's films. In the early 70s she emigrated to Canada and there, together with her husband Paul Saltsman and brother Dilip Mehta, she founded the Sunrise Films film company. As a director, screenwriter and editor she has worked on documentaries and television series. In 1988 she won the Gemini Award for Best Actress in In Limbo. Her first feature film, Sam and Me, premiered at the 1991 London Film Festival. The film was a great commercial success.
She was married to Paul Saltsman from 1973 to 1983. - divorced, they have one child, daughter Devyani, born in 1980
