Born March 2, 1949, Kayahoga Falls, Ohio, USA - American actress, filmmaker, cinematographer, dancer, choreographer, and teacher.
In 1970, Gates graduated cum laude from Brandeis University with a Bachelor of Arts in Theater Arts. After graduating from university, McFadden moved to Paris (France) and studied theater with the actor Jacques Lecoq (1921-1999) .
Gates made her film debut in 1984, playing the role of Mr. Price's secretary in The Muppets Make Manhattan. In total, she played in 28 films and television series.
In 1994, Gates made her directorial debut, directing an episode of Origins of the television series Star Trek: The Next Generation, in which she also played the role of Beverly Crusher in 1987-1994.
In 2004, Gates participated in the restoration of an old southern French theater.
As of 2005, Gates teaches at the University of Southern California.
In 2006, Gates made her camera debut with an episode of "FanExpo Frenzy" on the television series Galacticast .
Gates is also a dancer and choreographer; in 1982-1991 she directed dances for 5 films and television series.
