The youngest of three brothers in his family. Matthew attended Southend High School for Boys and then graduated cum laude from Rose Bruford's London College of Rhetoric and Drama and continued his studies at Philippe Gaulier Theater School in Paris, where he studied clownery.
Bainton is known as a co-creator and cast member of the sitcom Yonderland and The Wrong Mans, as well as the children's comedy show Horrible Histories. Other most notable works of the actor in film and on television were the pictures "Music Bond Us" (You Instead), "Otherworldly" (the future), "Bill" (Bill) and the series "You, Me and the End of the World" (You, Me and the Apocalypse, Spy, Gavin & Stacey .
Mat was a member of the group "Special Benny", in which he played guitar and bass guitar and was the vocalist. He currently has a solo musical project called "Dog Ears".
