In the early eighties, she started modeling and soon made her screen debut. On May 13, 1985, she married Bruce Springsteen and subsequently their union attracted close media attention. They divorced on March 1, 1989.
As an actress, Phillips is best known for her role in the television series Sisters, where she starred from 1991 to 1996. She also starred in the comedy "Fletch Alive" with Chevy Chase in 1989 and has appeared in a number of film and television films. She left the screens in 1997 and currently lives in Los Angeles.
