Born January 3, 1975, Munich, Germany - Austrian and German writer and actor.
The son of an Austrian television director Michael Kelmann from Vienna. Daniel's grandfather, Eduard Kelmann, was an Austrian expressionist writer. At the age of six he returned to his father's hometown. He studied at the University of Vienna, defended his dissertation on the problem of the sublime in Kant.
He published his first novel in 1997 while still a student. Since his student years, he has been collaborating with major German-language newspapers - Suddeutsche Zeitung, Frankfurter Rundschau, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. Lectures on poetics at German universities.
Experienced the influence of Latin American magic realism, fantastic prose of the writers of the Prague school (Kubin, Perutz). In the first decade of the 21st century, he became known as a "child prodigy" and the main hope of German literature.
Daniel Kelmann is a member of the Mainz Academy of Sciences and Literature, the German Academy for Language and Literature. Winner of the Candide Prize (2005), Kleist Prize, Haimito Doderer Prize, Konrad Adenauer Society Prize (all 2006), Welt newspaper (2007), Thomas Mann Prize (2008) and other awards.
