Born December 8, 1945, Wexford, County Wexford, Ireland - Irish writer, considered one of the best writers in his country and a brilliant stylist.

Graduated from high school and college in his hometown. After graduation, Banville went to work as an employee for the Irish national airline Aer Lingus, which allowed him to travel the world at significant discounts. In the late 1960s, he lived in the United States, and upon returning to his homeland, he got a job as an assistant editor at The Irish Press, where he worked until its closure in 1995.

John Banville's first book, the collection of short stories Long Lankin, was published in 1970. Later, with rare exceptions, some novels came out from the pen of the writer. Banville's fifteenth novel, The Sea, won the 2005 Booker Prize.

John Banville is the Booker Prize Winner (2005), the Princess of Asturias Prize (2014). His prose has been compared to the work of Vladimir Nabokov for its accuracy, ingenuity and penchant for black humor.
