Born February 22, 1930, Genoa, Liguria, Italy, Italian film director, screenwriter, actor and editor.

While still a student, Montaldo starred in the film by Carlo Lizzani (Beware of Bandits! 1951). Then he worked as an assistant director on the filming of the films Lizzani and Gillo Pontecorvo. In 1955, Montaldo starred in another film - "Broken" (Gli Sbandati) by Francesco Mazelli.

In 1960 he directed his first film of his own.
