Born December 17, 1947 - American film actor, Cherokee Indian.
Trained at a Native American Agricultural School in Northern Oklahoma. Prior to training, Studi spoke only Cherokee. He was drafted into the US Army in 1967 and served in Vietnam for 18 months.
After demobilization, Studi decided to take advantage of the benefits relying on veterans and went to college in Tulsa, where he studied for two years, after which he completed his education at the university.
His subsequent activities were not related to cinema. Studi has worked as a journalist, editor, Cherokee language teacher and was an activist in the North American Indian Movement, including the famous Wounded Knee standoff on the Pine Ridge Reservation (1973).
Studi performed his first roles in theater and cinema after forty years. After the divorce, on the advice of a friend, he began to study in an amateur theater studio in order to meet new people and improve his personal life.
However, the hobby quickly grew into a profession. Studi's third film, the Pawnee leader in Kevin Costner's famous film Dancing With Wolves, was a turning point in his career. Studi's next character, Magua in The Last of the Mohicans, one of the central in the film, earned high praise from viewers for the multidimensionality of the image, which broke the tradition of depicting "bad Indians" as stilted villains.
In 1993, he starred in Geronimo: An American Legend, playing the legendary Chiricaua Apache leader Geronimo.
