Born May 29, 1975, Leeds, England - British singer, songwriter, actress, and TV personality.
As a child, she won the Miss Caribbean Sun contest .
At the age of 10 she began to play percussion instruments and at the age of 15 she received a scholarship at a music school, from which she graduated as a drummer and dance teacher. In 1993 she became a member of the "Spice Girls" group, along with Melanie C and Victoria Adams, responding to an advertisement in the newspaper. Emma Bunton was recommended by her singing teacher, Jeri Halliwell got into the group by accident.
In the group, the girl was known as "Scary Spice", which means "Scary Spice" in English. Melanie received this pseudonym because of the mannered accent and lush African hairstyle, as well as because of the extravagant manner of dressing. In 1998, Mel B began to engage in solo work, while combining work in the "Spice Girls". The first single was a collaboration with Missy Eliot called "I Want You Back", which was released on September 14, 1998. Produced by Missy Eliot, the single peaked at # 1 on the UK Single Charts.
In June 1999, the singer's second single, "Word Up" (a Cameo cover), was released, this time Melanie collaborated with Timbaland. The single peaked at # 14 on the UK charts and also became the soundtrack for Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery. On September 25, 2000, Melanie Brown released the full-length solo single Tell Me, which peaked at # 4 on the UK charts. Based on the family troubles she experienced, she wrote her first solo album, Hot, which was released on October 9, 2000. This was timely as the Spice Girls were about to disband. On February 19, 2001, the third single from the debut album, "Feels So Good", was released, which took 5th place in the top charts of the United Kingdom. On June 4, 2001, Hot's fourth and final single, "Lullaby", was released. Melanie dedicated this song to her daughter Phoenix Chi Gulzar, who, together with her mother, starred in the video for this song. This time, the single did not become the best and took 14th place in the UK Single Charts. Because of this, Virgin Records canceled the contract with Brown. A fifth single, "Hotter" was planned to be released, however, the release was delayed due to low sales of the single "Lullaby" .
In 2002, Melanie published her autobiography Catch a fire.
In 2003, Melanie immigrated to the United States from the UK. She currently resides with her husband and three daughters in Los Angeles, CA.
Having recorded several more or less successful solo singles, in 2005 Melanie released her second solo album LA State Of Mind, which suffered a disastrous failure, taking only 453rd place in the UK charts and reaching a total sales of only 1,500 copies. The only single from this album, "Today", managed to break into the top 50, reaching 41st position on the charts.
Melanie supported the idea of ??reuniting the Spice Girls and went on tour with them.
In 2007, Brown took second place in the show "Dancing with the Stars", where she danced together with Maxim Chmerkovsky. In 2011, Brown became a judge for the Australian version of the X-Factor, and in 2012 she was a guest judge for the British X-Factor.
In 2013, Melanie announced that she was returning to her solo career and began recording her third solo album. On September 19, 2013 the singer's new single "For Once In My Life" was released, which took 30th place in the British top charts.
