Born 1963, Bellevue, Washington, USA is an American screenwriter, producer and director.
Taylor is a graduate of Bellevue High School and graduated in 1984 from Pomonese College, a liberal arts school, where he enrolled instead of accepting an offer from the USC School of Motion Picture Arts.
Taylor began working on Cannon Films in 1987. After visiting China on a grant from the Avery Foundation, Taylor returned to Los Angeles and spent three years working with Ivan Passer; he also worked with HBO director Devon Foster as his assistant.
Taylor met Payne while he was working temporary jobs in Los Angeles, who eventually moved in with him for financial reasons. While they were neighbors, they wrote short films and began writing Citizen Ruth. After winning money on the television game Wheel of Fortune, Taylor entered the Tisch School of the Arts at the age of 30. He and Payne later rewrote the script for Citizen Ruth while Taylor was a graduate; the film appeared when Taylor was in his third year of school. Taylor received his MFA in Cinematography from New York University in 1996.
