Born in 1978, Germany, also known as Daniel Schmidt, is a German information technology activist and former representative of the WikiLeaks project.
From 2002 to 2005, Domscheit-Berg studied Applied Computer Science at the Vocational Academy of Mannheim. Subsequently, he worked for Electronic Data Systems, a US company, as a computer network engineer with a focus on information security and wireless networking technologies. In 2009 he left his job and moved to Berlin. In May 2012, Daniel joined the Pirate Party of Germany with his wife Anke Domscheit-Berg.
Domscheit-Berg joined WikiLeaks in 2007 when he met with project founder Julian Assange at the annual Chaos Computer Club conference in Berlin. In 2010, a conflict arose between Assange and Domscheit-Berg, as a result of which Assange removed him from activity. On September 25, 2010, Domscheit-Berg announced his departure from WikiLeaks.
In December 2010, Domscheit-Berg announced his intention to create the OpenLeaks project together with Herbert Snorrasso and other former WikiLeaks colleagues.
The OpenLeaks website was launched in January 2011. In 2012, Domscheit-Berg posted on the website a message that the organization would not continue to work in accordance with its original intentions. However, in 2013, he announced that he would continue to work on the project.
