Her mother is a Japanese citizen of Korean descent and her father is American. Has a younger sister, Ashley ("Yuka"), who is also a model. When Kiko was one year old, her family moved to Tokyo and then settled in Kobe, Japan, where her father got a job. In 2003, when Kiko was 13 years old, her parents divorced. The father returned to the United States, and she stayed with her mother in Kobe. Until the age of 16, when she moved to Tokyo, Kiko was employed in modeling full-time. Although she has lived in Japan for most of her life, Kiko is also an American citizen and speaks fluent English in addition to Japanese. In 2001, her modeling career began: in a competition held by Seventeen magazine, Kiko was chosen by readers and editors as Miss Seventeen and became the exclusive model and face of the magazine for the next three years.
