Born July 10, 1973, Ishikawa, Japan - Japanese film director, screenwriter and animator.
Yonebayashi's first directorial job was the full-length anime Arieti from the Land of the Lilliputians, which made its creator the youngest director of Studio Ghibli. The film was released in 2010. After 4 years, Yonebayashi directed his second feature film, Memories of Marnie, which won an Oscar nomination.
In December 2014, Yonebayashi left Studio Ghibli and in April 2015, together with producer Yoshiaki Nishimura, founded Studio Ponoc. The partners immediately began work on the film "Mary and the Witch's Flower" based on Mary Stuart's fairy tale "The Broom". The film tells the story of a little girl named Mary, who discovers the powers of witchcraft. The film will premiere in Japan on July 8, 2017. The visuals of the film strongly resemble the work of Hayao Miyazaki, especially The Witch Delivery Service.
