Born June 17, 1957, Bristol, England, UK - British director.

Graduated from Birmingham University in 1979. Then she worked for the BBC for five years. Since 1985, she has served as an assistant director at the Everyman Theater in Cheltenham.

In 1989 she moved to the Bristol Old Vic Theater, where her production of The Comedy of Errors was a success.

She then staged The Winter's Tale, The School of Backbiting, Medea and Death and the King's Horseman at the Royal Exchange Theater in Manchester.

In 1991, she made her debut on a more serious stage - at the Royal Shakespeare Company theater, staging The Virtuoso based on a play by little-known Thomas Shadwell. This was followed by the staging in 1992 of the comedy "Talents and Admirers" by Alexander Ostrovsky.

In 1992, she saw her first commercial success: her production of John Guar's Six Degrees of Separation was moved to the West End Theater. In 1994 she made her Royal National Theater debut with Shakespeare's Pericles. This was followed by Terry Johnson's Hysteria for the Royal Court Theater and Bertold Brecht's Threepenny Opera for the Donmar Warehouse, where Phyllida Lloyd still works.

In 1999 the director staged the musical "Mamma Mia!", based on the popular songs of ABBA. In 2008 she adapted it for the film version, and this became her first and very successful film work.

In 2011 she directed the biopic The Iron Lady starring Meryl Streep.
