Over the five decades of his acting career, he is best known for his role as Maxwell Smart (Agent 86) in the spy comedy series Get Your Goggles (1965-1970, 1995), in which he also occasionally directed and written. Adams won three Emmy Awards for his role as Maxwell Smart (1967-1969). He also voiced characters in the animated series Tennessee Tuxedo and Its Stories (1963-1966) and Inspector Gadget (1983-1986).
