July 20, 1924, Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - July 13, 2014, Nyack, New York, USA - American writer, short story writer, playwright and screenwriter.

Served in the US Army, including in Europe. Studied at the University of Cincinnati and Columbia University. He worked as a librarian and journalist.

Service in the US occupation forces in Germany, served as the theme for the writer's debut story "Crazy in Berlin" (1958).

Thomas Berger is most famous after the release of the rogue novel "Little Big Man" (1964), which was soon filmed by Arthur Penn (1970).

Of twenty-three novels, only one has been translated into Russian - "Little Big Man". Thirty-five years later, Berger wrote a sequel to the novel and called it The Return of the Little Big Man.
