For some time she lived with her grandmother, but after she could no longer support her granddaughter, she ended up on the streets of Kinshasa. Rachel did not go to school, could not read or write.
The director and producers of the upcoming Canadian drama War Witch spotted her in a documentary about the lives of children in Kinshasa. After that, she was approved for the role of the girl Komona, who was kidnapped by the rebels and forced to participate in hostilities. The film was released in 2012. It was warmly received by critics and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. In February 2013, Rachelle received a visa to attend the 85th Academy Awards and screenings in Canada, France and Germany. She herself has also received several prestigious film awards for this role.
