Von Donnersmark's first feature film "Das Leben der Anderen" (The Lives of Others), on which he worked for three years, including screenplay, production and final editing, won the 2006 European Academy Award for Best Film , Best Actor and Best Screenplay. His next film, The Tourist, which Donnersmark created in 11 months (explaining in an interview with Charlie Rose his desire to take a break from writing a tough suicide novel) was a light romantic thriller starring Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp. The film received three Golden Globe nominations - Best Musical or Comedy, Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy, and Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy. The film also received 3 Teen Choice Awards nominations (Best Picture, Best Actor and Best Actress), two of which won, as well as a Redbox Movie Award for Most Popular Drama of 2011. At the moment, the picture has grossed about 280 million US dollars in worldwide film distribution, thanks to which it was named "international hit" by The Hollywood Reporter.
