Born March 26, 1957, Hamburg, Germany - German film director, screenwriter, actor and cameraman.

As a teenager, he left school and worked as a cook on a ship. He studied painting and graphics and then cinema at the University of Visual Arts Hamburg.

His first TV movie Das Go! Projekt Oliver Hirschbiegel created from his own script in 1986. The aspiring director quickly achieved success - his films in the genres of drama and thriller enjoyed the attention of TV viewers. In the mid-1990s, Hirschbigel took part in the popular television series Commissioner Rex, about a dog serving in the police.

In 2001, Hirschbiegel's first film project, the thriller Experiment, starring Moritz Bleibtreu, was released. The plot of the film is based on a real experiment on modeling the behavior of prisoners and jailers by 19 volunteers, which ended in tragedy. Hirschbiegel's film debut received excellent press reviews and collected many awards. The director's second film, My Last Film, which is a 90-minute monologue of a fifty-year-old woman who wants to start her life from scratch, was also a hit with critics.

Hirschbigel's film Bunker, which appeared in 2004, has attracted great attention. The theme of this controversial film is the last days of the Third Reich, and the main character of "Bunker" is Adolf Hitler performed by Bruno Gantz (the film script is based on the memoirs of the personal secretary of the Fuhrer Traudl Junge). Hirschbiegel's decision to appeal to the figure of Hitler sparked widespread debate in German society. The approach of the director, who humanized the leader of Nazi Germany, whom many are accustomed to consider an absolute evil, could not but provoke protests. Nevertheless, the film made good box office receipts around the world, garnered many awards at festivals and received an Oscar nomination for Best Foreign Film.

After this nomination, Oliver Hirschbiegel was invited to Hollywood, where until recently he worked on the fantastic project "Invasion", in which actors Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig are involved. The film was released in the US in August 2007.
