August 12, 1910 - October 20, 2006 - American actress.
Her father, Christopher Billlopp Wyatt, Jr., was a Wall Street banker, and her mother, Eufemia Van Rensselaer, was a critic in the Catholic World newspaper. Wyatt was educated at one of the private schools in Manhattan, and later studied at Bernard College for two years. She then attended drama school in Stockbridge, Massachusetts, where she studied for six months and also played a lot on the local theater scene. For the first time on Broadway, Jane Wyatt appeared as a stunt double for Rose Hobart in The Passat. For her performance on stage, she received good reviews from critics and soon decided to pursue a film career, signing a contract with Universal Pictures in 1934. Success came to her in 1937, after she played the role of Sondra Bizot in the film "The Lost Horizon". Her other notable roles were in Only a Lonely Heart (1944), Boomerang! (1947) and The Gentlemen's Agreement (1947). In the early 1950s, her film career began to decline sharply as Wyatt actively opposed the policies of Senator Joseph McCarthy. In the 1950s, she stopped appearing on the big screen and returned to the theater stages in New York. In the mid-1950s, the actress began her career in television, where she became best known for her role as Margaret Anderson in the TV series "Father Knows", in which she starred from 1954 to 1960. This role earned Jane Wyatt three Emmy Awards for Best Actress in a Television Series. Also notable was her role as Amanda Grayson in one of the episodes of the series "Star Trek". In 1986, she played this role in the movie Star Trek 4: The Voyage Home, based on the series. The actress continued her television career until the mid-1990s, starring during this time in the series "Love Boat", "Fantasy Island", "St. Elsver", "Hotel" and some others. After 1996, Jane Wyatt was no longer filmed. She retired with her husband Edgar Bedhan in the Los Angeles suburb of Bel Air, where she died on October 20, 2006 at the age of 96.
