Born July 12, 1948, Jamesville, New York, is a sound designer, screenwriter, director, editor, and sound actor.
Graduated from Allegheny College, Meadville, and then from the University of Southern California at Los Angeles, where he received a master's degree in filmmaking.
Has worked as a sound designer on various films, including the Star Wars film series, the Indiana Jones series, Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978), Alien (1982), and WALL- And "(2008).
Best known as the creator of many of the iconic sound effects for the Star Wars movie series, including the R2-D2 robot voice, blaster shots and the characteristic breathing of Darth Vader. Another landmark work was the scoring of the WALL-E robot from the animated film of the same name by Pixar studio (2008). He was also the sound designer for the film. Winner of four Oscars.
