Born into a Jewish family of Alice and Samuel Kind. Mother was engaged in housekeeping, and father was a jeweler. He grew up with his younger sister Joan in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Graduated from Pennsbury High School in 1974, graduated from Northwestern University in 1978 where he was in the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He is married with three children. Works frequently with Bill Lawrence. Likes to play golf. Richard's best friend is George Clooney.
