November 22, 1924 - June 13, 1987 - American actress.
She studied at the Goodman Theater Drama School in Chicago, and also studied acting with famed Uta Hagen in New York. Her acting debut took place at the age of 17, and in the early 1950s she already began to appear on the stage of New York. In 1953, she won the World Theater Award for her role in In the Middle of Summer. In 1960, she was first nominated for a Tony Award for her role in the Broadway production of Tennessee Williams' The Sweetheart Bird of Youth, starring Paul Newman. In 1963, the play was filmed, and Paige, playing the same role there, was nominated for an Academy Award. Previously, she was twice nominated for an Oscar for her roles in the films Hondo (1953) and Summer and Smoke (1961) .
For the next three decades, Geraldine Page continued to play a lot on Broadway, receiving three more Tony nominations in 1975, 1982 and 1987. Despite her relatively small filmography, the actress was nominated four more times for her role in the films You Are Now a Big Boy. (1966), Pete and Tilly (1972), Interiors (1978) and The Godfather of Greenwich Village (1984). In 1986, considering herself a seven-time Oscar loser, Geraldine Page received the coveted Academy Award for her role as Mrs. Carrie Watts in A Trip to the Bountyful .
Over the years, the actress has also worked a lot in television, where she performed in a number of television series, including "Long Hot Summer", "Medical Center", "Ghost Stories" and "Endless Love". Her voice was also spoken by Madame Medusa in the Disney animated film "Rescuers" (1977) .
From 1954 to 1957, Page was married to violinist Alexander Schneider. In 1963 she married actor Rip Thorne, who was 7 years her junior. They had three children, a daughter (actress Angelica Thorn) and twin sons.
