Born November 15, 1929, Kansas City, Missouri, USA - American theater, film, television and stage actor, President of the Screen Actors Guild of the USA in 1981-1985. In 2009 he voiced Karl Fredriksen in the Pixar animated film Up. In the US, he is best known for his role as the director of news programs Lou Grant from the sitcom The Mary Tyler Moore Show and its spin-off Lou Grant.
