Born November 24, 1942, Glasgow, Scotland - Scottish comedian, musician, presenter and actor
His mother worked in a hospital canteen and his grandfather was an Irish immigrant. In 1946, while his father was in the army, his mother left the family, and Billy and his sister raised their aunts, Margaret and Mona. Until the age of 20, Connolly lived in Glasgow in the Anderston area, and then moved to the Partick area. He attended Saint Peter Primary School and Saint Gerard Secondary School. At the age of 12, Connolly decided to become a comedian, and at the age of 15 he dropped out of school, receiving two diplomas, one of which was a mistake (Connell instead of Connolly) .
In the early 1960s, Billy Connolly began performing as a folklorist singer. In the 1970s, Elton John helped him enter the American scene. In May 2011, while the documentary Billy Connolly's Route 66 was being filmed, Connolly broke a rib and injured his knee, but returned to filming a week later.
