April 8, 1928, New York, USA - September 11, 2004, New York, USA - American poet, librettist, author of poetry for musicals and films.

Childhood fell on a period of economic depression, worked from early childhood as a shoe shiner, assistant truck driver, in a knitwear factory. In 1955 he managed to graduate from New York University, and two years later he defended his master's degree at Columbia University.

One of the first creative experiences was the creation with composer Phil Springer in 1953 of the song "Heartbroken", which was sung by Judy Garland (the mother of the performer, later, many works of Ebba Liza Minnelli).

Fred Ebb met the composer John Kander in 1962. After writing a few test songs, they create their first musical, Golden Gate, which was never staged. In 1965, Kander and Ebb's musical Flora the Red Menace premiered on Broadway, which won Liza Minnelli the Tony Award.

Their second collaboration, the musical Cabaret, was very well received. The show received 8 of 11 Tony Award nominations. The play was shown for three years, in 1987 it was staged again. The next Broadway edition of 1998 was shown over 2,300 times. Based on the musical performance in 1972, the film of the same name was shot, directed and choreographed by Bob Foss.

The next creative period was not marked by success comparable to "Cabaret". So the musical "70, Girls, 70" (1971) withstood only 35 performances.

In 1977, Kander and Ebb collaborated with Martin Scorsese and Liza Minnelli on the musical New York, New York, featuring their most famous theme song of the same name.

In 1993, the musical Kiss of the Spider Woman was released, which won the authors the third Tony Award. After two more projects that did not succeed, Kander and Ebb significantly reduce their creativity.

The creative union of the composer and the poet lasted 42 years.
