After receiving good reviews and a BAFTA nomination for her 1955 film Picnic, she was offered the lead role in the Broadway production of Anne Frank's Diary, which earned her a Tony nomination at the age of eighteen. She subsequently starred in the films Fascinated by the Scene with Henry Fonda, and in the Oscar-nominated Italian drama Capo. In the sixties she played several more major roles in films, of which the film "The Adventures of a Young Man" can be distinguished, for which she was nominated for a Golden Globe in 1963.
In the mid-sixties, she moved to Italy and returned to the screens on an irregular basis, mostly playing supporting roles. She also wrote two bestselling autobiographies: one about romance with Richard Burton and Christopher Jones, and the other about the Strasberg family's friendship with Marilyn Monroe. Strasberg has a daughter, Jennifer Robin, who was born on March 14, 1966 in Los Angeles, during a short marriage to actor Christopher Jones. Susan Strasberg has struggled with breast cancer for many years and died of a thrombosis in 1999.
